A popular dish in Germany and a favorite when I served it here.
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
2 slices slightly stale white bread or about 2 oz of dried breadcrumbs
1/4 cup warm water or milk
1 large egg
1 T garlic powder or 1 clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
This is kind of a base, you can use different spices if you like.
Soak the breadcrumbs in water or milk for a few minutes until it rehydrates slightly.
Mix everything together. Don’t be too gentle, the more mixing, the smoother the end product. This is good for use in a strong mixing machine, like a Kitchenade.
These patties can be made whatever size you like. From little finger foods to full servings. Depends on what you want.
Flatten and fry until dark brown on both sides and cooked through.
Can be served with brown gravy or mustard. Some like them with applesauce. These are also good on buttered bread with minced chives.
